About Always There, Rocking Chair
The Story & Why It Exists
This story came to me in the shower. One of those moments where God drops something in your chest and you know if you ignore it, it will haunt you.
It’s about a rocking chair that never speaks. It doesn’t ask for anything. It rocks and hums.
It holds babies in the middle of the night. It carries grown bodies when they are too tired to stand. It absorbs tears, laughter, gossip, daydreams. It becomes a stage, a safe place. The family uses it for everything. And still, no one really sees it. No one notices the sound it makes. The soft hum that says you’re okay right now.
They don’t realize how much of their life passes through that chair until one day it’s gone.
That part is personal.
I know what it feels like to be present and overlooked. To be needed but not valued. To be helpful and still invisible. In my own family. In the world. As a mixed-race person who never fully fits anywhere. As someone harmed by medical “professionals” who were supposed to protect me. This book holds truth. It honors people who give and give and are only recognized in their absence.
Sometimes when someone disappears, people finally understand what they meant. Sometimes that person never comes back. Does the chair?
This book is for children and for adults who still carry their childhood inside them. It asks us to pause. To notice what is consistent instead of what is fleeting. To appreciate people and moments while they are still here. To teach kids early that love does not always announce itself in ways we expect.
Bonus: I am a Southern gurl. Rocking chairs are not decoration where I come from. I was given one as a little girl and I still have it. My family had one in our lineage home and we still have it. These chairs hold generations. They remember hands weight, grief and joy.
Always There Rocking Chair is about that kind of remembering.
It is for anyone who has ever felt unseen.
And for anyone who wants to learn how to see.

“As a grandparent, Always There, Rocking Chair touched my heart in ways I didn't expect. This gentle story follows a family and their beloved front porch rocking chair, a steady presence through life's ups and downs, offering a peaceful place to sit for family and friends.
When a storm damages the chair, the family's decision to restore it rather than replace it teaches a powerful lesson about what's worth saving.
Always There, Rocking Chair is a story about resilience, family bonds, and the comfort of things that endure. The delightful, colorful illustrations bring the story to life.
